Pan Chengdong Institute of Mathematics

Pan Chengdong Institute of Mathematics carries forward the dedication and innovative spirit of the renowned mathematician Professor Pan Chengdong in fundamental research. It focuses on major scientific challenges in fields such as number theory, automorphic forms, representation theory, algebraic geometry, ergodic theory, and dynamical systems. The institute aims to conduct original, groundbreaking, and interdisciplinary research that explores the academic frontier. By attracting and gathering high-level research teams and outstanding talents, the Institute vigorously promotes cross-disciplinary integration, striving to become an innovation hub with significant international influence and a leader in cutting-edge research, thereby contributing to fundamental scientific research and the development of mathematics in China.

Pan Chengdong Institute of Mathematics explores innovative mechanisms in team building, scientific research, international collaboration, interdisciplinary studies, and talent cultivation, positioning itself as a base for producing original theoretical achievements. Led by Professor Liu Jianya, Changjiang Scholar and recipient of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, the institute works with masters and elites in professional fields to maintain its strengths and advantages in scientific research.

Pan Chengdong Institute of Mathematics primarily centers around the development of mathematical discipline of Shandong University. The mathematics program at Shandong University is one of the most important mathematical research centers in China, boasting a series of world-renowned and internationally-leading research achievements. For instance, in the 1980s, Professor Pan Chengdong was awarded theFirst Prize of the National Natural Science Awardfor his outstanding work on theStudy of Goldbach's Conjecture. In recent years, Professor Liu Jianya has proposed new approaches to study the distribution of prime numbers, promoting the transition of China's analytic number theory from applying classical to modern methodologies. Related achievements have earned him theSecond Prize of the National Natural Science Award.

Currently, the institute mainly relies on the number theory research team at Shandong University in terms of personnel composition.
